The Treatment Landscape for Children and Atopic Dermatitis

Dawn Eichenfield (00:07):
Hi, my name is Dawn Eichenfield and I am a pediatric dermatologist at Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego. I am also assistant professor of dermatology at the University of California in San Diego. I predominantly see pediatric and adolescent patients in my practice. I also see some adults because some of our kids like to stay with us into their early 20s.
(00:30):
I think I'm very excited about the treatment landscape for children in atopic dermatitis. I think we are going to expect a lot of the biologic medications heading down to the younger age ranges. I know a lot of the clinical trials are currently being conducted now. At Rady Children's Hospital, we are doing some of those clinical trials, so we're very excited about this.
(00:54):
I also know that there's more and more non-steroidals that are being approved for the younger ages as well, so I think we have that to look forward to too. And then I think as atopic dermatitis continues to be better managed, I think other pharmaceutical companies are also becoming more interested in developing medications for this disease state. And as we have a better understanding of atopic dermatitis, I think the treatment landscape is going to expand. I know there are a number of different companies that are developing new drugs in this arena, so we are very excited for the new treatment prospects for atopic dermatitis in children.
